Everything You Need To Know About Wedding Transportation

wedding transportation

With the summer almost here, the wedding season is now well and truly underway. This post will give you tips on the different transportation aspects of wedding planning, from an insider’s view and answers what you need to know.

How much does wedding transportation cost?

Transportation costs vary with the number of people, duration required and vehicle types. It is normal for luxury vehicles to be priced by the hour. You should expect a ride from your reception in a sedan to come in around $150, while the use of a chauffeured limousine for a larger wedding party, for an entire day, will set you back at least $2000.

Who needs transportation?

Before you worry too much about the costs outlined above, remember there is no hard and fast rule. First and foremost, like the rest of your special day, transportation is governed by your budget. If costs allow, you may consider the use of transportation to help those from out of town and perhaps as an option for those that will drink alcohol at the reception.

The best bit of advice is simply to speak to a good provider of ground transportation and discuss your needs together.

Some examples of wedding transportation

Wedding transportation can support all wedding-related activities. We have supported bachelor/bachelorette nights, transfers from airports, the ceremony and the honeymoon.

When should wedding transportation be booked?

Limousine companies operate with a fixed fleet — this means that in high-demand periods, such as Prom season, spring and fall, they will require more notice. You should have an idea of you basic itinerary; your venue and rough numbers, before contacting a limousine company. Once contacted, most companies would like to have a brief face-to-face meeting to confirm requirements and ensure that they can provide the service required within the budget available.

Most companies are flexible enough to cope with minor changes up to two weeks before the event.

Do chauffeur normally receive tips?

It is normal to tip for excellent service in ground transportation. You may consider discussing this during booking and paying gratuity after the event, perhaps by credit card. As for sums, this is entirely dependent upon the satisfaction you have received with the service, we find that normally we receive about 20% and hope this is a reflection on our level of service.

What types of vehicles are appropriate?

There are no hard and fast rules about the type of vehicle. Some find a classic sedan that can accommodate 2-3, absolutely fine. Others prefer the prestige of a stretched limo. Our only advice is that the average gown takes a fair amount of space inside a limousine and normally requires a small amount of rearranging, to make it look its best after exit.

What we have learnt in our years of supporting weddings:

  • White vehicles look great but can clash in photos with wedding dresses, particularly if they are off-white.
  • If you choose a vintage vehicle, be sure to have a back up close at hand – they break down all the time!
  • Reconfirm your transportation requirements the week before your wedding to ensure everything is running to plan.
  • Make sure that someone sensible (wedding planner or a non-drinker) has the contact details for the chauffeurs.
  • A stretched limousine requires space to turn and sometimes guidance. It may look better if this is choreographed before all your guests exit the venue.
