Travel Apps You Can Use with the New Apple Watch

If you are an early adopter and are waiting for the new Apple Watch to arrive (it is slated to be released April 24, 2015), you will likely want to use it to help you with all your business travel needs. Here are some new travel apps for the Apple Watch that you’ll want to consider.

The new Apple Watch is a smartwatch, an example of wearable technology that people are using in droves. It is designed to give users the right information at just the right time or location, using data about your whereabouts from GPS signals. For example, you could see a list of local restaurants appear on the watch’s display as soon as you touch down in your destination city, or check out the weather before heading out.

If you already have pre-ordered the Apple Watch or are planning to buy one as soon as it is out in stores, you should know that a number of travel-oriented apps have been developed for the device. We expect that there will be many more apps that are useful for business travelers as the device begins to roll out. Apple is set to start shipping the Apple Watch on April 24.

The Apple Watch doesn’t function on its own. It requires pairing with an iPhone 5 or later versions, according to a recent article at CNN. Here are details on some travel apps that will be able to use with Apple Watch now.

American Airlines
The Apple Watch app for American Airlines is set up to answer all the questions travelers frequently pose before, during and after flights. You’ll use the app to get notifications that it’s time to leave for the airport or check in at the gate. Another interesting feature is the built-in map that shows in-flight details along with the anticipated time of arrival.

Babbel
In need of some fast translation services? The Babbel app for Apple Watch helps you learn a foreign language, by detecting where you are currently located and then offering site-appropriate words. For example, if the watch detects that you are in a cafe, it will show you words you need to know for ordering drinks. When you reach the airport, the app will give you translations for words such as “baggage claim” or “customs.”

Expedia
Simply by glancing at their wrist, Apple Watch users can examine their itineraries for future trips. They can also see details about their hotel and flight, along with actionable messages indicating flight delays or other changes. If you already use Expedia, you’ll want to check out this new app for your wearable device.

Hotels.com
Use the Hotels.com app on your Apple Watch to check for any last minute-bargains at local hotels, check out your next reservations and determine the location of your booked rooms using GPS signals. The app will also send you notifications about your reservations while providing contact information and the check-in details.

SPG
The SPG or Starwood Preferred Guests app is designed for guests staying at Starwood Hotels and Resorts properties. You can use it via your Apple Watch to review the details of your room reservations, obtain directions to the hotel. Once you arrive, use the app to check in electronically, without needing to spend time in line or having to print out the reservation.

What do you think? Have you already pre-ordered an Apple Watch or do you intend to purchase one soon to help you make the most of your business trips?
